MANHATTAN AVERAGE
APARTMENT PRICE
SURPASSES $1K PER SQUARE FOOT |
|
The
highly priced real estate in New York City, especially in Manhattan,
continues to escalate at a rapid pace, according to the Prudential
Douglas Elliman Manhattan Market Overview.
The report said that the average price of a Manhattan apartment reached
$1.3 million in the first quarter, an increase of 7.1% from what it was
during the first quarter of 2005. Meanwhile, the median sales price
jumped 17% to $825,000 and the average price per square foot rose 10.3%
to $1,004.
The report was written by Jonathan Miller, president of Miller Samuel
Inc., a real estate appraisal and consultant company. Miller credited
the 15.5% increase in Wall Street bonuses to the rising real estate
prices.

RESIDENTIAL REAL
ESTATE AUCTIONS INCREASING |
|
According
to the National Auctioneers Association, its members auctioned
off $14 billion worth of residential real estate property in
2005, a 24% increase over the amount of such business it did in
2003. "We think there’s a
very high likelihood that trend is going to rise, based on the
overbuilding in Boston, New York, Chicago, Houston, Orlando and
Jacksonville," said Steve Good, CEO of Sheldon Good & Co., a
national auction firm. "The slowdown is just beginning." |
